Kim has a teaching style that he adapts to the individual student. He’s supportive, encouraging and REMARKABLY patient. I feel very fortunate to have come across someone with his combination of experience, knowledge and love of what they’re doing. Oh, and I almost forgot, he keeps it fun!

Kim Andrews makes music fun and easy for young and old. He presents the music and concepts in a very usable manner. My grandson and I have taken lessons with Kim and can see the progress on a weekly basis.

I accidentally broke my output jack on my semi hollow, but he was able to fix it! Super nice and understanding, I highly recommend you go here. Best experience ever, honestly.

My kids started taking guitar with Kim over the summer, and I’m just astonished at how much they’ve been learning and how much fun they’re having. Kim is cool and patient, and he somehow is able to combine a lesson for an 8 year old boy and 11 year old girl. It’s great to hear them getting introduced to classic rock, country and current pop. I cannot say enough good things about Kim Andrews and Newport Guitar and Music. I came in as a person who knew nothing but the very basics about my guitar. I have since learned an infinite amount – and I say “infinite” because what I have learned about my instrument and how it works are things that I will continue to apply and expand on for the rest of my playing life. Kim’s endless knowledge of the guitar, combined with his enthusiasm for music, and his ability to assess my skill level that day and challenge me, makes every lesson fun and worthwhile. For a few years now I have been coming to this store every once in a while when I am in need of new strings, picks, etc. I have always loved paying this store a visit as it is a hidden local gem and provides a much better quality (not to mention less overwhelming) experience than going to Guitar Center. The owner Kim Andrews is so friendly and welcoming, and so knowledgeable about guitars. He makes every customer walking in the door feel comfortable and important and like an old friend.

During the COVID-19 crisis I have been in need of guitar strings but unable to go out to buy them as I live with an at-risk person at home. I called up Newport Guitar and Music and sure enough Kim was willing to work with me to help my order get to me in the safest way possible for me and for my family. He shipped the order to me right after our call. I am so grateful to have a business like this one so close by!

Update… They hand delivered my order to my home same-day, and even took the care to write this handwritten note!  In case it’s difficult to read, it says “Hello Sarah, thank you for your order! (I washed my hands just before packing this) Stay well! – Kim Andrews)” So considerate and such great service!! If you need some music supplies to help pass the time during the lockdown, Kim Andrews is your guy!

After buying my 7-year old a 3/4 size electric guitar on Amazon, which arrived in unplayable condition due to fret buzz, I returned it & decided to go to a real instrument store.

I checked with several of the local authorized dealers for Jay Turser to find the particular color my son wanted, but no one carried it. Several stores offered to order it for me, but they all insisted that I wait for them to sell enough of their current stock so they could consolidate their order and save on shipping costs. This was a reasonable request, but their prices were too high compared to what I paid at Amazon. I expected to pay a little more, but not too much more.

I finally found Kim Andrews at Newport Guitar who not only ordered the guitar right away, but who offered to set up the instrument as part of the purchase. The price was right & the customer service was excellent. When I went to the shop to pick up the guitar, Kim even gave me some tuning and care advice. He also mentioned that he had re-soldered a ground inside the guitar that was not solid.

My son couldn’t be more pleased with the guitar & it plays like a dream! Thanks Kim for a wonderful purchase experience. I will never buy an instrument online again.

Kim is a very knowledgeable musician with a great ability to teach! He makes his lessons very fun and caters to the desires of the students and where they want to head musically. He will help you develop any skill you are looking to and is very easy to learn from and get along with.

Suddenly in his 7th grade year, I found out my son had some musical ability and like to play violin, which was offered at school. Being that he was in that middle school mode, motivation for studying was at an all time low.  How fortunate that we found Kim Andrews!  Throughout his 8th grade year, my son had a weekly lesson on bass and guitar, and now is almost ready to be in a jazz band in his high school. In only a year! I am so grateful for how Kim could get inside that teenage brain, insist on some rules, and in the end, coax out confidence, proper skills and joy!  There is never any nagging to go to his lesson with Kim, in fact, it’s a priority for my son.  In the the small and convenient (for NB / CDM) studio,  I know as a parent that this is time and money well spent. You are getting one on one instruction from a consummate professional musician who also just happens to be one cool guy!  Do Not hesitate or bother looking further.

I started guitar lessons here 2 years ago.  I have enjoyed every minute.  Kim is a great teacher and musician!  I’ve learned to play songs immediately along with the understanding of how each song is written and the many ways to play it.  It is never to late to start lessons.

I can’t imagine a more positive, upbeat, and inspiring music teacher than Kim Andrews. My daughter is six months into her guitar lessons and, right from the start, Kim has had her playing fun and contemporary songs while “sneaking in” the teaching! I’d recommend Kim to anyone.

Guitar lessons for my son were amazing at Newport Guitar and Music. Kim Andrews has such a way with teaching! John was anxious to return to the studio and to practice at home. What a difference just a few lessons made in his playing. The kids also get an opportunity to perform in a concert and see their teacher play as well. Such a great investment into my sons education and development.

I stopped by Newport Guitar and Music after working on a Yacht at Newport Harbor Slips, I live in San Diego, so I wanted to check out a new guitar store on my way home. I have been looking around for another electric guitar and have been doing a lot of research on low cost, yet high quality guitars, it is amazing that there are some low cost guitars that are good to very good quality. I walked into to the store and was greeted by Kim, the owner – he was giving a lesson – he said feel free to play any guitar, there are picks on the counter and plug into a amp and try any guitar. Well, that was all I needed 🙂 I saw two guitars both were Tagima, a Brazilian brand, while its a brand I hadn’t come across my research at the time for low cost but good to very good quality electric guitars.

I tried both a Telecaster body style and a Stratocaster Style both played very well, amazingly well. I started with the Tele body style and was tuning it up, and Kim asked if I would like to use a tuner and he had some I could use, I explained I had an app on my phone, and I found that a really nice touch that he offered. I had a Fender Telecaster that was a reissue MIJ pink paisley, and had that since i was 16 I loved that guitar but had to sell it when I moved back to San Diego about 7 years ago, I had it for 30 years I picked the Tele body style. I played in a few bands did a bit of recording in SD and SF, toured a bit, when i was 16-21, I’m not a bad guitar player, I love playing very much. I’m now at a point where I’m really into some of the more technical aspects of playing through and through from amp selection, to effects and to how you ‘play’ the guitar it does matter, and the body types and on and on. The prices were exceptional and they both played extremely well, andsounded great!

Kim is a great person and I really enjoyed his friendly, and warm welcome, and his approach. I played for about 30 minutes on the two guitars. Kim asked me how things were going a few times, in a very nice way, just to make sure I was ok. Great shop, great service, and I have a feeling I’ll be going back – I’m already in love with this guitar and saw a few other Tagima models when I did more research on them after I purchased it this evening. For me, there are those rare time when you just pick up a new guitar you haven’t played before and it feels good and plays well, you kinda of know it right away. This was the case for me with the Tele body Tagima I bought For guitar enthusiasts, there aren’t many re sellers/distributors of the Tagima brand guitars, I already highly recommend them, and Kim is a great person to buy them from.
